Description

The Bullfighter's ponytail is an old mode of the 17th century, which persists today in order to hold the bullfighter's cap. Nowadays, it’s a hairpiece.

Bullfigter’s ponytail or bullfighter’s bun story.

On the 19th century the bullfighters grew a ponytail they were plaiting in a bun (called moña), it is a vague keepsake of the times of the wigs of the 18th century. The ponytail was useful in addition to muffle the blow in case of fall. When the bullfighter wanted to retire, he used to cut the ponytail, nowadays; this expression means to leave a profession.

Juan Belmonte was the first one who resigns the natural ponytail and, since then, the bullfighters use the false one called castañeta.
