José Soto, Ray Heredia and the brothers Juan and Antonio Carmona - young gypsies from Jerez, Madrid and Granada - founded Ketama in the mid-eighties. José Miguel Carmona joined later and between 1988 and 1994 they recorded the legendary ''Songhai'' and ''Songhai II'' along with the kora of Toumani Diabate from Mali. With no apparent effort, Ketama established at the same time the bases of New Flamenco and the incipient World Music.
