The singer José Cortés Jiménez "Pansequito" (La Línea de la Concepción - Cádiz, 1946) has been rewarded with the "Distinción Compás del Cante 2010" award, presented by the Cruzcampo foundation to great figures of the flamenco world, for twenty four years now.The jury, convened today and chaired by Matilde Coral, decided unanimously to granted this award to "Pansequito", "for his long career in singing, a great performer with a deep freshness and a strong personality", according to a press release of this foundation.Besides the jury, also formed by Miguel Clavero, Teresa Peña, Daniel Pineda Novo, Ángel Vela, José Luis Buendía and Emilio Jiménez Díaz, has also rewarded, with a special mention, the Bienal de Arte Flamenco "Ciudad de Sevilla", for his contribution for more than thirty year to the diffusion and promotion of the flamenco.

They also expressed to Matilde Coral, as the chair of the jury, their tenderness for the work of Rafael Garcia Rodriguez "El Negro", who contributed for long years to improve the flamenco art.The award Compás del Cante has been granted for the first time in 1984 to emphasize the professionalism of the flamenco singers, even if this award is today also granted to dancers and musicians.With this award the Cruzcampo Foundation proves his desire to recognise the flamenco art "as the exceptional expression of the Andalousian and Spanish feelings and culture."As in previous editions the artist will receive a commemorative sculpture, titled "Compás del Cante", work of the sculptor Jesús Gavira, during a dinner that will be celebrated next July 8. in the Palacio de los Córdova, in Granada.
