Following a two year hiatus, Ramón Jiménez Salazar, Dieguito el Cigala, releases his sohpomore solo effort. A Madridian, he is accompanied by Niño Josele on guitar and several percussionists. This album represents an album with more of a classic touch than in his previous work. Given the tremendous power of his voice (Camarón's influence is evident,) he seems quieted at times because of the monotony of the album. Dieguito has everything he needs to be a great cantaor. His second album, 'Entre vareta y canasta,' was published by the label 18 Chules, partially owned by Gran Wyoming, Pablo Carbonell, Santiago Segura and others. The album's release was celebrated on September 16 at the Teatro Central of Sevilla with the patronage of Wyoming, Pablo Carbonell and the album's producer Javier Limón along with reknowed artists of the like of Juan Valderrama, Vicente Amigo, Pepe Begines, Pastora Soler, Javier Ruibal, Dorantes and Arcángel.
Along with the album a video by the Oscar-nominated director Fernando Trueba was also released. Trueba's latest production, filmed live at the Treatro Real was nominated for best Flamenco album at the 2002 Latin Grammy Awards.
